What parliamentarians get paid
At the end of 2019. then-immigration minister David Coleman in the Morrison government was given about a year off for personal reasons. The opposition granted Mr Coleman a pair, so he was not required to sit in parliament. He did not receive his ministerial allowance for the year, but the Leader - the local paper for St George & Sutherland Shire reported that they believed that Mr Coleman did fulfill his local member duties and received his parliamentary salary as an MP.
